Community rallies behind family after house fire

Faroese broadcaster KVF reported that Elian á Ørg was far from home when he learned by phone that his house was on fire.

In a social media message to local residents, Elian thanked the community for helping him and his family after they lost everything in a fire this summer.

He said it was deeply moving to see people come together to support them. The family’s house burned to the ground, leaving them with nothing, but residents quickly brought clothing, food and other necessities. Others cleaned an empty house so the family could move in.

When Elian returned home from warmer countries, the first thing he did was buy a jacket because he no longer owned one. He said it had not occurred to him that he had lost even that, as he had not needed one while he was away.

Elian is now preparing to build a new house on the site of the old one. He said the support the family had received was a blessing and that he could not put into words how grateful they were.
