A self-proclaimed Greenlandic supporter of Donald Trump has returned to Nuuk to prepare for the arrival of Jeff Landry, the US special envoy to Greenland, who will attend next week’s Future Greenland business conference, reports Danish broadcaster DR.

Jørgen Boassen, who has previously hosted visits from Donald Trump Jr. and former US Arctic commissioner Tom Dans, told DR he received a call from Landry’s associates requesting his assistance in facilitating meetings with Greenlanders.

“Jeff wanted me in Greenland because he needs help talking to Greenlanders about what they think of the situation,” Boassen said upon his arrival in Nuuk. He added that he would spend the coming days arranging meetings and gathering supporters to welcome the delegation.

Boassen, who has spent months travelling in the US, claimed he was not alone in returning, stating that “some people have come to Greenland, and some have travelled with me to prepare for the arrival,” including a doctor assessing conditions in case a US hospital ship—promised by Trump in February—materialises.

In February, Trump announced plans to send a hospital ship to Greenland to address healthcare concerns, a proposal reportedly influenced by Boassen’s discussions with Landry about local complaints. Greenland’s government, however, has rejected the offer.

Landry’s visit has not been officially confirmed by US authorities, and DR’s attempts to interview him have been unsuccessful. Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated he would only meet Landry if a clear agenda was provided, emphasising that Greenland would not engage in discussions conflicting with its existing trilateral cooperation framework.

Foreign Minister Múte B. Egede echoed this stance, telling DR: “We need to know what we’re talking about. We won’t hold meetings just for the sake of it.”

The Future Greenland conference, scheduled for May 19–20 in Nuuk, will also include US Ambassador to Denmark Ken Howery among its participants.
