The Faroese Construction Advisory Association has sharply criticised a finance committee report that claims local builders lack interest in planning and constructing a new hospital in Tórshavn, calling the assessment “completely wrong,” Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The committee’s report, published ahead of a parliamentary debate on Friday, states that during initial discussions on the project, the possibility of excluding Faroese firms from the tender was raised. It further notes that “interest in such a solution appears limited, both among public authorities and within the Faroese construction sector.”

Árni Jakobsen, chair of the advisory association, rejected the findings, telling the broadcaster that the committee had failed to consult the industry itself. “This is simply incorrect and highly unfortunate for our work,” he said. “Such statements can have serious consequences for construction and advisory firms.”

The existing hospital in Tórshavn has become too small, prompting plans for a replacement facility. Parliament will debate the second reading of the funding proposal on Friday.
