Man arrested after trying to punch bus passenger

A man was arrested after allegedly trying to punch one passenger and pour beer over another on a bus, mbl.is reports. The bus driver called police to Hverfisgata about the disruptive passenger, who was described as heavily intoxicated and verbally abusive.

Police arrested the man when they arrived. A security search found suspected drugs in resealable bags he was carrying. He was held in a cell, according to the capital region police log covering incidents from 5pm on Monday until 5am on Tuesday.

Other incidents

A landlord asked police for help with a troublesome tenant. When officers arrived, the tenant was asleep inside his home. The landlord wanted police to help him seek medical assistance for alcohol addiction.

Police also pursued a driver who refused to stop. The short pursuit ended when the driver stopped outside the police station on Hverfisgata. He had been speeding and had driven through several red lights. He was arrested and taken to the nearby station after a saliva test came back positive for drugs. He was held in a cell while the case was investigated.

In Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær, police stopped a driver who had been measured travelling at 157 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometre-per-hour zone. The driver was immediately disqualified from driving and faces a substantial fine.

Police in Kópavogur and Breiðholt stopped another driver who was of foreign origin and had been disqualified from driving in his home country. A saliva test also indicated drug use. He was arrested but released after a blood sample was taken.

Another driver was stopped while disqualified and was still using studded tyres. He faces a fine.

Police were notified of a burglary in progress at a company in Kópavogur, but the thieves had left by the time officers arrived. The case is being investigated.

Police on Vínlandsleið received a report of a moped rider driving dangerously, including on the wrong side of the road. Officers located the rider, who was visibly travelling quickly compared with other traffic, repeatedly crossing into the wrong lane and riding onto pavements. He faces a fine over his driving.
