Police are investigating a suspected weapons offense that occurred near the swimming beach in Tuomijärvi, Jyväskylä, early Saturday morning around 5:30 AM. According to police reports, multiple shots were fired in the parking area of the beach, though no injuries have been reported, and there is currently no evidence that the incident posed a danger to bystanders.

Criminal Chief Inspector Sami Salo indicated that police responded swiftly to the scene and were able to bring the situation under control. “There clearly appears to have been some sort of dispute among the groups present. It seems that multiple shots were fired with several weapons,” Salo stated.

More than ten individuals have been detained at the scene. Salo confirmed that all the detainees are adults from the Central Finland region, primarily consisting of young adults of varying ages. The detained individuals were found to be in possession of several handguns. However, the investigation has not progressed far enough to determine the legality of the firearms.

The location has been secured, but not all detainees have been interviewed yet. “The investigation will continue with questioning of the detainees. We will clarify who was actively involved in the incident and make further arrests based on that information later today,” Salo noted.

Police emphasized that the pre-investigation is still in its initial stages, and further details about the event cannot be disclosed at this time. They are requesting anyone with relevant information or observations about the incident to contact them via email at [email protected].
