Faroe Islands seeks funding for new supported housing in Miðvágur
The Faroese government plans to build new supported housing in Miðvágur for people with intellectual disabilities and complex needs, including autism, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The first phase of the project, which includes renovations and extensions along Leitisvegur with seven residential units, is estimated to cost up to 20.9 million Danish kroner. The buildings involved cover 720 square metres and require modernisation and expansion.
Original funding proposals were intended for parliamentary review in the last election period but were not presented for a vote, despite being open for consultation.
A second phase will add a new 12-unit facility for individuals with mental health and social challenges. The new housing will replace three existing supported homes in Vágur, currently operating in temporary, unsuitable buildings.
