Police investigate staff misconduct allegations at disability care unit in Kajaani
Police in northern Finland have launched a preliminary investigation into suspected improper conduct by staff at a residential care facility for people with intellectual disabilities in Kajaani, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The Kainuu welfare region confirmed in a statement that allegations of staff misconduct targeting residents have emerged at the Rajamiehentie unit, which provides round-the-clock care. Authorities have notified residents’ next of kin and contacted police.
Detective Chief Inspector Kimmo Tuulenkari of Oulu Police told Yle that investigators are examining whether the case warrants a full pre-trial investigation. “We are now determining what exactly happened there,” Tuulenkari said.
The welfare region stated that staff have been interviewed and “administrative personnel measures” taken, including changes to work assignments and unit operations. Neither police nor the welfare region provided details about the nature of the alleged misconduct.
The Rajamiehentie facility offers specialised housing for 15 residents with intellectual disabilities, supported by a staff of about 30.
