A prosecutor in Finland has called for two teenagers to be jailed for nearly three years over the prolonged assault and robbery of a peer in Mustasaari, western Finland, in February 2025, Yle reports.

Prosecutor Pia-Maria Sillanpää is seeking a minimum sentence of two years and ten months for each defendant, both of whom were minors at the time of the alleged crimes. They face charges of aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, and deprivation of liberty.

The two suspects, who were friends with the victim, are accused of attacking the third teen for over an hour in a forest area in Sepänkylä, Mustasaari. The prosecution states they repeatedly struck and kicked the victim in the face and stomach, forced them to eat snow, and made them dance on video while robbing them. The victim, fearing further violence, did not leave until given permission—leading to the deprivation of liberty charge.

One suspect also faces defamation charges for allegedly sharing images and videos of the victim afterward.

The victim suffered facial swelling, wounds, and a mild traumatic brain injury, with persistent symptoms including headaches. Both defendants deny the severity of the charges: one disputes the aggravated robbery claim entirely, while the other admits to theft but not aggravated robbery. Their lawyers argue the assault should not be classified as aggravated.

The prosecutor noted that the proposed sentence accounts for the defendants’ age at the time; without this consideration, the penalty would have been harsher. The case was heard this week in Ostrobothnia District Court.
