Police report attacks on protected barnacle geese

Helsinki police have received reports of barnacle geese and other wild birds being mistreated this year, Yle reported.

In several cases, birds were deliberately chased, pelted with stones and attempts were made to hit them, police said. The birds have also been disturbed and injured.

Police reminded the public that the barnacle goose is a protected species. Killing or unlawfully disturbing one is illegal, and injuring an animal can constitute a serious offence.
