Norway’s May 17 Constitution Day weather forecast brings milder conditions than feared
Meteorologists predict largely pleasant weather for Norway’s upcoming Constitution Day celebrations, with temperatures rising to around 16°C in Oslo and lower chances of precipitation in many regions, Dagbladet reports.
While forecasts remain tentative, duty meteorologist Unni Nilssen described the outlook as “usable” for much of the country. “It’s still some time until May 17, but it’s looking fairly decent across large parts of Norway,” Nilssen told the newspaper. She cautioned, however, that conditions could shift rapidly between sun and rain.
Eastern Norway is expected to see the best weather, with Southern and Western Norway also facing mild conditions. Oslo’s daytime temperatures may reach 16°C, while Kristiansand and Stavanger could see around 14°C, with roughly a 30 percent chance of rain. Bergen is forecasted for similar temperatures, with slightly higher precipitation probabilities.
Further north, conditions grow more unstable. Trondheim may reach 13°C but with increased rain chances, while Tromsø could hover around 10°C, with near-equal odds of rain or dry spells. “The farther north you go, the higher the likelihood of precipitation—but dry weather remains more probable overall,” Nilssen noted.
Frost is unlikely for most areas, except possibly in far northern regions or mountainous terrain. Nilssen added that temperatures may prove ideal for traditional bunad attire: “It’s warm enough that the outfit won’t feel too heavy.”
