A historic farmhouse serving as the main entrance to one of Denmark’s largest nature areas has reopened after extensive restoration, DR reports.

The red-painted Haraldskær Avlsgård in Vejle Ådal (Vejle Valley) has undergone months of renovation, upgrading its facilities for schools, hikers, and local associations. Nicknamed “the Gate to the Valley” due to its location, the site now offers modernised toilets, a kitchen, and shower facilities for overnight visitors using nearby shelters.

Project manager Ole Wisler of Vejle Municipality’s Nature and Outdoor Life department emphasised the farmhouse’s role as a key meeting point. “Given its central placement, it helps meet the high demand from those exploring the valley’s nature,” he said.

The renovation also includes a new film and exhibition space, where visitors can learn about the area’s Ice Age landscape and its historical significance for travel and settlement.

Funding for the project came from a grant by the Nordea Foundation for initiatives along the Hærvejen—an ancient hiking route—with costs shared by Vejle Municipality.
