A new €9 million roller coaster has opened at Särkänniemi amusement park in Tampere, marking the park’s largest investment in a decade, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

The ride, named Konect, stretches over half a kilometre in length and reaches a top speed of 68 kilometres per hour. It replaces the old Trombi roller coaster, which has been dismantled.

Eeva Muurimäki, Särkänniemi’s business director, said expectations for the new attraction are high. She hopes it will draw visitors from beyond the local area, calling it the park’s first “family roller coaster”—meaning children as short as one metre tall can ride when accompanied by an adult.

The investment comes as the company emerges from restructuring, including layoffs of two employees and contract changes for others last autumn. Two managers also left the company during the process.

Särkänniemi’s summer season begins on May 1.
