Man shot dead in Oslo’s Økern district
A man in his early 20s has died after being shot in Oslo’s Økern district on Sunday evening, Norwegian police confirmed on Thursday, Dagbladet reports. No arrests have been made in connection with the killing.
The victim, from the Romerike region, was initially taken to hospital in critical condition but was later declared dead. Police are treating the case as a homicide investigation but have not identified any suspects. Three individuals were briefly detained overnight for questioning but were released shortly afterward.
The shooting occurred around 50 metres from Lørenbanen football pitch, where a youth match was underway at the time. Witnesses reported hearing five to six gunshots, prompting panic among players and spectators. “When they heard the shots, everyone started running to hide,” a witness told Dagbladet. Emergency services performed life-saving first aid at the scene, but the victim could not be revived.
Police have not confirmed a motive but stated they are investigating potential links to organised crime. The victim had previously been charged in connection with a separate shooting in Oslo’s Groruddalen district in June 2025, which authorities have tied to the outlawed motorcycle gang Satudarah and its affiliate, the Comanches.
“We are pursuing all leads with significant resources,” said Anne Alræk Solem, head of serious crime investigations at Oslo Police. “Firing weapons in public spaces is completely unacceptable. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
The family of the victim described him as “a warm and caring person,” according to their legal representative. “They are in deep shock and have many unanswered questions,” said lawyer Thor Bache-Wiig.
