Finnish coast guard warns of strong GPS interference in Gulf of Finland

The Finnish Border Guard has issued a warning to boaters about significant GPS signal disruptions in the Gulf of Finland, public broadcaster Yle reports.

Vessels navigating the area are advised to verify their position using nautical charts due to the ongoing interference. The alert comes as recreational boating traffic increases with the approach of summer.

Ilja Iljin, deputy commander of the Gulf of Finland coast guard district, told Yle two weeks ago that disruption levels have been higher than usual recently, coinciding with Ukrainian airstrikes on Russian territory. Increased GPS jamming by Russia has been observed in Finland since the early stages of the war in Ukraine.
