The Faroese state energy company SEV expects to complete a revised development plan by the end of 2026, according to its 2025 annual report. The updated strategy will focus on accelerating the transition to fully green electricity production, chairman Haraldur Hammer stated.

SEV had allocated 75 million DKK last year for wind turbines in Klivaløkshaga on Sandoy, but the project has stalled pending further environmental assessments. The Faroese Environmental Agency requested additional studies on birdlife in the area before granting final approval.

“We must all work together to achieve greater energy self-sufficiency,” Hammer said. “It is urgent.”

The wind farm project, which would include seven turbines, attracted four bids in February 2025—from Magn, Effo, SEV, and a consortium including Jóhan í Niðristovu. However, no construction has begun as authorities await the required assessments and permits.

SEV’s current development plan is considered outdated. The new version will be created in collaboration with energy authorities and other stakeholders to ensure all electricity becomes green, Hammer confirmed.
