Faroe Islands now has over 3,200 electric vehicles

The Faroe Islands now has more than 3,200 registered electric vehicles, accounting for 7.5 percent of all cars in the archipelago, according to public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

As of April 1, there were 3,231 electric vehicles registered in the Faroe Islands, representing 7.5 percent of the total 42,774 registered cars, the national energy company SEV reported. This marks a significant increase from 2,605 electric vehicles in January 2025 and 3,167 at the start of this year.

In 2025, SEV installed 604 new charging stations for electric vehicles, while replacing 252 older or faulty units. By the end of last year, 55 solar power plants were connected to SEV’s grid.

To further expand solar energy use, SEV, in collaboration with the Electrical Safety Authority, has introduced new approval procedures for solar power systems exceeding 11 kilowatts. A revised pricing structure for solar energy was also implemented on February 15 this year.
