The Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen) has started returning 26.7 billion kroner (€3.6 billion) in excess tax payments for 2025 to citizens’ NemKonto accounts, according to a report by Danish broadcaster DR.

Refunds are being processed from today, with many taxpayers already planning how to use the unexpected funds. The payout marks the annual settlement of overpaid income taxes from the previous year.

NemKonto is Denmark’s mandatory digital payment account system, used by public authorities to distribute refunds, benefits, and salaries.
