A significant weather change will sweep across Finland this weekend, bringing widespread precipitation and dropping temperatures, according to national broadcaster Yle’s meteorologist Henriikka Heikinoja.

Friday will remain mostly sunny nationwide, except in northern Finland, where scattered sleet and snow showers may occur. However, a low-pressure system moving in from the west on Saturday will bring more uniform and heavier precipitation to southern and central regions.

Precipitation will vary between rain and snow, though most areas will see rain, Heikinoja said. Where snow does fall, road conditions are expected to deteriorate. Strong wind gusts, particularly along coastal areas and at sea, will accompany the shift.

Temperatures have already been cooling for two days and will drop further on Saturday, hovering just above freezing in most regions. Only in the south will highs briefly reach slightly above 5°C.

The unstable weather will persist into Sunday, though the heaviest precipitation will have moved eastward by then. Scattered rain, sleet, and snow showers may still occur nationwide, with any snow in the south likely melting quickly. Central regions could see temporary snow accumulation, worsening driving conditions.

Winds will remain strong, particularly in the south, where a preliminary warning has been issued.
