Prosecutors have demanded life imprisonment for three people accused of murder in a case involving a body discovered in an apartment in Oulu’s Sairaalanrinne district, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports. A fourth individual faces charges for lesser offences connected to the case.

The victim, a 25-year-old man from Oulu, was found dead in his apartment on October 22, 2025, several days after the alleged crimes took place between October 17–18. Police had previously stated that the victim suffered prolonged and brutal violence, with investigators linking the murder to debt collection.

According to authorities, the debt was tied to an earlier violent crime in Oulu during autumn 2025, involving both the victim and a 30-year-old woman. While police initially investigated the case as manslaughter, prosecutors later upgraded the charges to murder.

Three individuals—two men and one woman, all in their early 30s—are charged with murder and aggravated deprivation of liberty. A fourth woman faces charges for illegal threats and incitement to assault. The accused have largely denied the allegations.

The trial begins today in Oulu District Court, with opening arguments to be heard in a courtroom located near Ruskonselkä prison. Yle will cover the proceedings from the scene.
