Patient fees for some healthcare services in Finland will nearly double by the end of the current government term, according to a report by Ilta-Sanomat.

The government led by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo agreed this week on a fiscal framework for 2027–2030, which includes further increases to healthcare fees and the introduction of new charges. Combined with previous hikes, the changes will significantly raise costs for patients.

Under the adjustments, the maximum outpatient clinic fee will rise from €41.80 in 2023 to €78.40 by 2027—a nearly 90% increase. Day surgery fees will also climb by almost 90%, from €136.90 to €257.20 over the same period.

Health centre visit fees, which the government has now raised by 20%, will increase by over 70% during the term, from €20.90 to €36.24.

New fees include a €52.40 charge for specialised examinations and a €257.20 surgical procedure fee, in addition to existing daily care charges. A €10 daily fee will also apply for deceased storage, while post-mortem examinations will cost €60.60.
