Four drivers were charged with using mobile phones while driving after photographing a rollover involving an Eimskip freight truck, mbl.is reported.
The truck’s trailer overturned on a ramp from Reykjanesbraut onto Ártúnsbrekka on Wednesday morning. The diesel-powered truck was pulling a trailer carrying, among other things, timber and insulation wool.
The trailer has been removed, but the ramp was closed for about six hours while the recovery work was carried out. Árni Friðleifsson, chief superintendent with the capital area police traffic department, said traffic moved well because of good alternative routes in the area.
Árni said many motorists who drove past the scene used their phones to take photographs or record video. Four drivers were charged over mobile phone use while driving.
“It is intolerable when police are working at a scene and people drive past taking photographs or videos on their phones, especially when there has been an injury accident,” Árni told mbl.is.
