The current collective bargaining agreement between the Faroese Employers’ Association (Reiðarafelagið) and labour unions will most likely be extended by one week, mediator Terje Sigurðsson told public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya on Wednesday.

The original deadline for the agreement was set to expire at midnight on Friday, 24 April, following a request from the Conciliation Board (Semingsstovnurin) after negotiations stalled. The board had called for an extension after two meetings between the parties—held on 21 March and 8 April—failed to produce progress.

With no substantial talks yet underway, Sigurðsson confirmed the agreement will now remain in force until midnight on Friday, 1 May. “The collective bargaining agreement will be extended by one week,” he stated.

The Employers’ Association initially contacted the Conciliation Board on 9 April to intervene in the stalled negotiations with the unions.
