Brinellskolan, Fagersta, school attack

Witnesses and neighbours have described the suspected attacker’s movements before the deadly incident at Brinellskolan in Fagersta, SVT News reports. The first reported traces lead to a residential area about one kilometre from the school, where the suspected 18-year-old is said to have lived for a short period.

Neighbours told SVT News they saw the suspected attacker run past the area.

At 14:06, police received a report of ongoing deadly violence at Brinellskolan.

“It is awful. A young girl has died and several people are seriously injured. That something like this can happen in Sweden,” said Annika, who lives in the area.

She said police later arrived in the residential area.

“They were running around here. The police were everywhere then. Then we heard a loud bang. I do not know if they came with a battering ram,” she said.

Students Waran and Sahar described what they experienced inside the school. Waran said someone entered with bleeding injuries to their hand, arm and foot before a teacher shouted: “Lockdown, lockdown. Go inside, hide.”

“Students were standing and screaming by the windows. They shouted, ‘Help! There is someone with a knife,’” Waran said.

Sahar said the incident happened only three days after the students had started their final school year.

“It is crazy. It is tragic because it is our town. It is our school that we have to attend. These are our corridors and classrooms,” Sahar said.
