Should you see a doctor for sinusitis?
A sinus infection often follows a cold, but when should medical attention be sought? Danish public broadcaster DR’s health column Ask the TV Doctor addresses the question after a reader sought advice on managing the condition.
Katrina, a reader, wrote to the programme to ask how sinusitis should be treated. The condition can develop when a cold lingers, leading to inflammation in the sinus cavities. Symptoms may include facial pain, nasal congestion, and a persistent thick nasal discharge.
While many cases resolve on their own, the column advises monitoring symptoms closely. Medical evaluation is recommended if pain or fever worsens, symptoms last beyond 10 days, or over-the-counter remedies fail to provide relief. Severe or recurring infections may require prescription treatment, such as antibiotics.
