Man arrested on suspicion of data breach, corporate espionage and communications secrecy violation
A man in his 40s has been detained on suspicion of hacking into a secure data transfer platform used by two companies and an organisation, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports.
Police in Western Uusimaa are investigating an alleged data breach, corporate espionage, and aggravated violation of communications secrecy. According to authorities, the suspect—an approximately 40-year-old man—has been taken into custody in connection with the case.
The crimes are believed to have occurred in February. Police state that corporate espionage typically involves the unlawful acquisition of trade secrets with the intent to disclose or exploit them.
Investigators suspect the man gained unauthorised access to a tightly secured data transfer platform where sensitive information was exchanged between two companies and an organisation, both based in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Police have not disclosed the identities of the parties involved.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not commented on a possible motive.
