Driver suspected of hitting bear in Virolahti

A driver is suspected of hitting a bear with a passenger car in Virolahti, in Finland’s Kymenlaakso region, Yle reports.

The collision reportedly occurred on the Vaalimaanväylä road. The bear is believed to have been injured and has moved towards Nopala, continuing north.

No people were injured in the collision.

Police warned people not to approach the injured bear. Any sightings should be reported to the emergency response centre.

Specialist large-game assistance teams have been tracking the bear. Tracking was stopped overnight because of poor weather conditions and will resume in the morning.
