The European Commission is urging member states to increase remote work as part of a strategy to curb fossil fuel use, Financial Times reports.

According to the newspaper, the recommendation comes as the EU seeks solutions to rising energy costs driven by the conflict in the Middle East. The commission’s proposed measures also include expanded support for public transport and reduced VAT rates on heat pumps and solar panels.

A formal list of recommendations for member states is expected to be published in the near future.
