Runavík port reports record revenue but lower profit in 2025
Runavík’s municipal port generated 23.8 million Danish kroner in gross revenue last year, according to figures published by the local council, but rising costs cut into profits.
Expenses in 2025 reached 15.1 million kroner, leaving a net surplus of 8.7 million kroner—a decline of 200,000 kroner compared to 2024. The port’s financial performance has steadily weakened since 2021, when it recorded a 10.1 million kroner surplus.
The council attributes the drop in profitability to lingering effects of the coronavirus pandemic, reduced traffic from Russian vessels, and unplanned maintenance work.
Despite the financial challenges, other revenue streams have grown, and the port expects increased activity in the coming years. A new dry dock in Skála and a planned oil depot by Effo in Søldarfjørður are projected to boost operations.
Since the merger of Runavík and Skála municipalities 21 years ago, the port has generated 313 million kroner in total revenue and 126 million kroner in net profit.
Cruise ship traffic is also rising sharply. While 21 passenger vessels called at Runavík in 2025, the council forecasts 33 visits this year.
