Bus carrying 60 middle school students involved in traffic accident in northern Finland
A bus transporting around 60 middle school students and their teachers was involved in a multi-vehicle collision in Kärsämäki, northern Finland, on Thursday, though no injuries were reported, according to public broadcaster Yle.
The accident occurred just before 11:30 AM on Highway 4, one of the region’s main traffic routes, where the speed limit is 100 km/h. Police preliminary investigations indicate the collision began during an overtaking maneuver.
Two passenger cars and the bus were involved. Both cars veered into a ditch after sideswiping each other, while the bus remained on the road. Authorities suspect one driver attempted to overtake the bus without noticing another car already in the process of passing.
Emergency services, including police, rescue units, and paramedics, responded to the scene. Despite the number of vehicles and passengers—approximately 60 students and teachers—no one was injured.
Police confirmed alcohol was not a factor and are investigating the incident as a potential traffic safety violation.
