Police suspect individual of crimes in fatal military ATV accident at Vekaranjärvi

Finnish police have named a suspect in a fatal military training accident last week in Kouvola, where a conscript died during an ATV exercise, reports public broadcaster Yle.

The incident occurred on March 31 at the Vekaranjärvi garrison area during a routine exercise by the Karelia Artillery Regiment. The suspect, who was operating the ATV, is under investigation for causing death and a service-related offence.

The conscript, who was a passenger on the vehicle, died in the accident. Police are continuing their preliminary investigation by interviewing those involved.

The case follows an earlier Yle report on the fatal crash, which took place during a standard off-road training session.
