Coalition negotiations between the Faroe Islands’ three largest political parties have reached their final stage, with transport policy emerging as a central point of contention, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
Beinir Johannesen, the transport minister and a key figure in the talks, expects disagreements over infrastructure and connectivity to dominate discussions. Photos from the negotiations show Johannesen alongside party leaders including Bárður á Steig Nielsen (Union Party), Aksel V. Johannesen, and Anna Falkenberg.
The outcome will shape the next government’s approach to roads, ferries, and aviation—critical issues for the archipelago’s remote communities. Parties must resolve whether to maintain six main ministries or restructure the cabinet further.
Observers note the talks have progressed smoothly so far, with a draft coalition agreement expected as early as Tuesday evening. If successful, the deal would formalise governance following the 2026 Løgting (Faroese Parliament) election.
