The Faroese Finance Ministry will not challenge a court decision suspending a ruling on the 2024 municipal election in Runavík, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reported Thursday.
The ministry had sought permission from the Appeals Permission Board to take the case to the Eastern High Court after the Faroese Court ruled in January that a lawsuit from five municipal council members should have a suspensive effect. This meant the ministry’s decision to annul the 2024 election and order a new vote was temporarily halted.
The Appeals Permission Board has now rejected the ministry’s request, meaning the suspension remains in place. The board does not provide reasoning for its decisions.
The underlying legal dispute between the five council members and the Finance Ministry over the annulment of the Runavík election will continue in the Faroese Court.
