Easter travel weather forecasted with mixed conditions across Finland
Finnish public broadcaster Yle will air a live broadcast at 10:30 AM today to discuss Easter travel weather, as thousands prepare for holiday trips. Meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander and reporter Ulla Malminen will provide updates on expected conditions.
Traffic volumes are rising earlier than usual, with peak outbound travel expected on Maundy Thursday afternoon between 1 PM and 7 PM. Unlike winter holidays, Easter travel is not staggered, leading to concentrated congestion.
Regional weather outlook
Northern Finland will see snow and rain turning to rain on Wednesday, with conditions clearing by evening. Southern regions remain dry. Thursday brings sunshine in the north, while central and western areas face overcast skies, fog, and occasional drizzle or rain. Temperatures will feel chilly in places, though southeastern regions may see some sun.
Heavy traffic is also anticipated on Good Friday between 9 AM and 2 PM, particularly on highways 4, 5, and 9 near Jyväskylä and Mikkeli. Return traffic will peak on Easter Monday from noon to 8 PM, with delays likely in southern Finland.
Weekend forecast uncertainty
Rain or sleet may affect southern areas on Monday, with temperatures dropping slightly. Forecasters warn of potential rain zones over the weekend, though exact timing and routes remain unclear.
No driving condition warnings have been issued by the Finnish Meteorological Institute for the Easter period.
