Faroe Islands begins final recount of parliamentary election votes
The Faroe Islands has begun a full recount of all 35,309 votes cast in last week’s parliamentary election, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports. The process, taking place in Klaksvík on Monday, could alter the final seat distribution, with margins as narrow as three votes deciding representation in two parties.
Ballots will be transported and recounted after negotiations between the Union Party, Unionist Party, and Social Democratic Party began at 10:00 local time. The recount follows disputes over razor-thin margins in the results.
In the Unionist Party, incumbent Johan Dahl leads first substitute Magna Højgaard by just three votes. Similarly, in the Republic party, Jóhan Christiansen holds a three-vote lead over substitute Eirik í Jákupsstovu. The recount may shift these outcomes.
Election officials have stressed that the process will be conducted under strict oversight to ensure accuracy.
