Home working stabilises at 40 percent of employed Danes

Home working has become a lasting feature of working life in Denmark, with just over 40 percent of employed people reporting that they have worked from home in the past four weeks, DR reported, citing Statistics Denmark’s latest Labour Force Survey.

The quarterly survey is based on around 15,000 interviews. The share of employed people working from home has remained close to 40 percent since the beginning of 2024, with little change in either direction.

Just over 6 percent said they work from home frequently, while the remainder do so occasionally.

Managers work from home most

Home working is far more common among managers and highly educated employees. The share is 74 percent among people in managerial jobs, while 68 percent of employees whose work requires knowledge at the highest level work from home.

By contrast, only 9 percent of people in manual jobs do so. The figure is 12 percent among employees in the service and sales sector.

The survey also shows that home working is most common among employees who work 37 hours or more per week.

Statistics Denmark said the proportion of employed people working from home has risen by around 13 percentage points since 2019, when it was below 30 percent.

During the coronavirus years, the share was at times above 35 percent. It exceeded 40 percent only in the first quarter of 2021, before remaining at roughly that level for the past 10 quarters.
