Norwegians can expect highly variable Easter weather this week, with only two days currently forecast to bring calmer conditions nationwide, according to a report by Dagbladet.

Marek Ratajczak, duty meteorologist at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, warned that the coming week will be “split,” with most regions experiencing both precipitation and sunshine—but at different times. “People should prepare for varied weather,” he told the newspaper.

Early in the week, western Norway, Trøndelag, and the north will face low-pressure systems bringing rain, milder temperatures, and wind. Eastern and southern Norway, however, can expect quieter conditions with temperatures hovering around freezing and some sunshine. But the pattern will reverse midweek, Ratajczak cautioned.

“The low-pressure systems may shift direction, bringing more precipitation to eastern and southern Norway, while western Norway, Trøndelag, and the north see longer periods of fair weather.”

For now, Tuesday and Thursday appear to be the calmest days, particularly in the southern mountains. Dovrefjell is expected to have the most stable early-week conditions, while areas like Langfjella and Jotunheimen may see improvements later in the week.

Ratajczak stressed that mountain weather will remain unstable, with sudden snow, blizzards, or wind possible. He urged travelers to pack for all conditions—including warm clothing, sunglasses, and indoor activities—and to check avalanche warnings via the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE).

Despite an unusually mild March, the meteorologist warned against assuming winter is over. “Don’t be fooled—winter isn’t necessarily finished, and snowfall is still possible, especially in the mountains,” he said.
