Faroese election recount could decide final parliamentary seats
A recount of votes from the Faroe Islands’ parliamentary and national assembly elections will take place on Monday and Tuesday, potentially altering which candidates secure the final seats, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Malan Johansen, chair of both the Løgting (parliament) and Fólkating (national assembly) election committees, confirmed the recount. While initial vote counting proceeded smoothly on election day, with most results finalised within hours, the final tally of paper ballots could still shift outcomes in tightly contested races.
Two parties—Sambandsflokkurin and Tjóðveldi—each have a margin of just three votes separating their elected candidate from the first alternate. For Sambandsflokkurin, the race hinges on the difference between Johan Dahl, currently elected, and Magna Højgaard, the top alternate. Similarly, Tjóðveldi’s Jóhan Christiansen leads Eirik í Jákupsstovu by the same narrow margin.
Johansen stated that the recount is unlikely to shift enough votes to change the results but remains a standard procedure to ensure accuracy.
