Faroese parliament sees average age of 50.8 after election

The newly elected Faroese parliament has an average age of 50.8 years, with only two members under 30, according to figures reported by Kringvarp Føroya.

Nearly half of the 33 elected representatives are between 50 and 59 years old. Women make up 30 percent of the parliament, with 10 female members.

Among the top vote-getters, 20-year-old Bjørg Brynhildardóttir Egholm of the Republic party received 972 personal votes, the highest for a new candidate. Høgni Hoydal (Union Party) secured 611 votes, while Republic leader Sirið Stenberg earned 566.

In the Centre Party, Steffan Klein Poulsen outperformed party leader Jenis av Rana with 701 votes compared to 363. Eyðdis Hartmann Niclasen (Union Party) came second on her party’s list with 636 votes, while leader Bárður á Steig Nielsen received 1,478.

For the Social Democrats, Aksel V. Johannesen and Ben Arabo led with 1,114 and 955 votes, respectively. Ruth Vang (Progress Party) topped her party’s list with 992 votes, and Sámal Petur í Grund (Self-Government Party) secured 551 personal votes.

Beinir Johannesen (People’s Party) received the most votes overall—1,677—followed by Bárður á Lakjuni with 837. Jørgen Niclasen placed third on the People’s Party list with 659 votes.
