Voter turnout in Skála remains nearly unchanged from last election
Voter participation in Skála stands at 83.9% in Thursday’s parliamentary election, just 0.1 percentage points lower than four years ago, despite a shift in polling location, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
The village’s polling station, previously housed in the pensioners’ association building, was moved to the sports hall after the original site was sold. With 398 of 535 eligible voters casting ballots by 7 PM, turnout currently sits at 74.4%—five points below the same time in 2022, when 409 of 515 eligible voters had participated.
However, when accounting for the 449 votes recorded so far—including 440 advance ballots—turnout aligns almost exactly with the 2022 figure. Heavy rain in the final hours may yet affect the result.
Historical records show strong engagement
A 1971 election logbook reveals past trends, including a 1973 referendum on alcohol laws where 183 Skála residents voted—37 in favor and 146 against liberalization. The same book notes Johan Nielsen as the top local candidate in a 1971 parliamentary election with 52 votes, followed by Kristian Djurhuus with 29.
In 2022, Skála’s turnout reached 89.5%, with 470 of 515 eligible voters participating either in person or via advance ballot.
