Kringvarp Føroya reports that applications will be invited next month for a municipal doctor at a new medical practice in Vágar.
Health Minister Eyðdis Hartmann Niclasen gave the information in response to a question from parliamentarian Jóhannis Joensen. Premises for the practice have been found in Vága Municipality, and it will become the third medical practice in Vágar.
Joensen also asked whether a woman would be appointed, noting that both current municipal doctors in Vágar are men. He said residents wanted the option of choosing a female municipal doctor.
Niclasen said the best-qualified applicant would get the job and that no distinction could be made on the basis of gender. She added that two other practices in health district 3, in Norðskála and Kollafjørður, already have female municipal doctors and can be used by people in Vágar.
The question was the first under section 52a of the current parliamentary session. Eight further questions have since been submitted.
