Denmark faces uncertainty over future supply of critical raw materials
Denmark has no clear plan for securing the raw materials needed for its green transition, according to a report by national broadcaster DR. Experts warn the lack of strategy poses a significant challenge as the country pushes to expand wind energy and other climate initiatives.
The issue came to light during a parliamentary hearing where lawmakers questioned how Denmark will obtain the metals and minerals required for wind turbines, electric vehicles, and other infrastructure. “It’s a problem,” one official admitted, acknowledging that current supply chains are neither stable nor sustainable.
Industry representatives emphasized that without a coordinated approach, Denmark risks delays in its climate goals. The country currently relies heavily on imports, but global competition for resources like lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements is intensifying.
No concrete solutions were presented during the hearing, though some suggested exploring domestic extraction or deeper partnerships with resource-rich nations. The government has yet to outline a formal strategy.
