Man returned to custody after appeal in Faroese assault case
A man convicted of assaulting a woman in Sandá two years ago has been returned to custody while his case is referred to the Faroese High Court, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The defendant, who was found guilty in a district court last year, will remain in pre-trial detention until the High Court reviews the case. The High Court is scheduled to convene in the Faroe Islands in June and November.
The man was arrested on 28 April 2024 and has been in custody since. He is currently detained in Denmark. In addition to the prison sentence, he was ordered to pay over 200,000 Danish kroner in compensation for pain and suffering as well as lost income. The claim had originally been for a significantly higher amount. The man maintains his innocence.
