Faroese parliamentary election sees higher midday voter turnout than last time
Voter turnout in the Faroe Islands’ parliamentary election has surpassed the last election’s midday figures in the three largest polling stations, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
In Klaksvík, 437 people had cast their ballots by noon, compared to 369 at the same time during the previous election. In Runavík, turnout reached 372, up from 254 last time. At Høllin á Hálsi in Tórshavn—the country’s largest polling station—around 500 voters had participated by midday, accounting for 14.3 percent of eligible voters there.
Jóan Petur Hentze, the election official in Tórshavn, called the turnout “unusual,” noting it was the highest since the 2011 parliamentary election. Despite poor morning weather, voter activity remained strong across the islands.
