Faroese election could have major impact on Danish government
The Faroese parliamentary election on Tuesday could play a decisive role in shaping Denmark’s next government, despite being overshadowed by Denmark’s own national vote, reports Danish broadcaster DR.
Karoline Englund, DR’s sole correspondent in the Faroe Islands for this election, has spent the past week reporting on how the outcome may influence Danish politics. Speaking to Faroese broadcaster KVF, she explained that while Denmark’s general election dominates attention, the Faroese vote could tip the balance between the left and right blocs in Copenhagen.
“The Faroese and Greenlandic MPs often become kingmakers in tight Danish elections,” Englund said. “This time, the result here could be crucial in determining who forms the next government—and which policies the Faroese and Greenlandic representatives will push for in the Folketing.”
Englund has filed live updates and analysis for DR’s website, radio, and television, working from the Faroese capital, Tórshavn. Danish media outlets, which previously sent multiple reporters to cover Faroese elections, have scaled back coverage this year.
