Faroese election poll shows Social Democrats leading with 40 percent support
A new opinion poll ahead of the Faroese parliamentary election suggests the Social Democratic Party (Javnaðarflokkurin) could secure 40 percent of the vote, marking a nearly 12 percentage point increase since the last election, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
The survey, conducted by Spyr.fo for Portalurin and FM1, indicates the Union Party (Sambandsflokkurin) would receive 24.5 percent, a decline of 5.7 percentage points compared to the previous election. Both parties are expected to retain their seats in the Faroese Parliament (Løgting), with current MPs Sjúrður Skaale (Social Democrats) and Anna Falkenberg (Union Party) projected to be re-elected.
The Republic Party (Tjóðveldi) is polled at 17.3 percent, while the People’s Party (Fólkaflokkurin) stands at 16 percent.
If confirmed, the Social Democrats’ result would be the highest for any party since 1953, when the Union Party won 45 percent and the Social Democrats 44.6 percent in a three-party election.
