Seven candidates shortlisted for Kajaani city manager interviews

The city of Kajaani in eastern Finland has selected seven applicants to advance to interviews for the vacant city manager position, public broadcaster Yle reports.

Interviews will take place on Monday, March 23, 2026. The candidates invited are Paula Halonen, Jyrki Komulainen, Janne Laine, Jouni Ponnikas, Piia Rissanen, Terho Savolainen, and Vesa Tuunainen.

A total of 38 applications were received for the role, which became open after Jari Tolonen resigned at the turn of the year following 16 years in the position. The new city manager is expected to begin in early September or as agreed by contract.

Requirements for applicants included a relevant higher education degree, strong leadership and financial expertise, municipal administration experience, and fluent English skills. The monthly salary for the position is €12,000.
