Finnish police are investigating two cases of aggravated embezzlement involving tens of thousands of euros, with former ski jumping coach Tommi Nikunen named as the suspect by broadcaster MTV.

The Häme Police Department confirmed it is probing two serious embezzlement cases targeting Lahti Golf Oy, a company operating a golf course in Lahti, and its affiliated association, Lahti Golf ry. The investigation is in its early stages, according to lead investigator Teppo Kallio, who noted that the suspected offenses occurred this decade.

“We have one suspect in the pre-trial investigation,” Kallio said. “Based on the case details, the suspect is believed to have misappropriated funds under their control.”

MTV News reported that Nikunen, known for his career as a ski jumping coach, currently serves as CEO of Tammer-Golf, a position he has held since January 2023. He previously worked for Lahti Golf from 2010 until 2025 and has also appeared this season as an expert commentator for Yle Sport.

Lahti Golf Oy disclosed in December that an internal audit had uncovered discrepancies, including tens of thousands of euros in unauthorized transactions. Investigators found invoices from 2021–2025 that did not belong in the accounting records, along with incorrect payment details and personal purchases charged to the company. A separate tax audit also revealed a €16,000 shortfall in the club restaurant’s tobacco sales.

The company has received €39,000 in state subsidies from Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture since 2020. Police estimate the pre-trial investigation will take several months due to the limited number of suspects and victims involved.

Yle has not been able to reach Nikunen or representatives of Lahti Golf for comment.
