The Faroe Islands recycled over 5,000 tonnes of waste in 2024, a significant increase from 3,650 tonnes in 2020, according to new figures from the Environmental Agency (Umhvørvisstovan).

Metals and iron—excluded from the official tally—remain the largest recycled waste category, accounting for roughly half of all materials recovered. The remaining half consists primarily of waste oil and other hazardous refuse, the agency reports.

The data reflects a steady upward trend in recycling volumes over the past four years.
