Faroese workers still struggling despite wage increases
Despite official reports that purchasing power has improved in the Faroe Islands, workers and craftspeople say recent wage increases are still insufficient to make ends meet, according to the trade union Verkafólk, as reported by Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The Faroese Economic Council (Búskaparráðið) stated in its spring forecast that purchasing power has recovered since 2020, citing rising wages and lower inflation. However, Verkafólk rejects this conclusion, arguing that while wages have increased for workers and skilled trades, the rise has not kept pace with living costs.
“While others have more to live on, workers are using all their energy just to get by,” the union said.
