Faroese women enter the workforce younger than men
Women in the Faroe Islands begin working at a younger age than men, while men tend to remain in the labour market longer, according to new figures from the Faroese statistics agency Hagstovan, reported by public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The employment rate among those aged 15 to 74 stood at 84% in November last year, remaining stable between 82% and 85% in recent years. Among 15- to 19-year-olds, the employment rate for women was 11 percentage points higher than for men in the same age group.
Conversely, in the 65 to 74 age bracket, men’s employment rate exceeded women’s by nine percentage points. Overall, the Faroe Islands has one of the highest employment rates in Europe for the 15–74 age group.
